Mr. Ziegler, 53, is President, Worldwide Consumer Healthcare, of SmithKline Beecham.
Mr. Ziegler joined SmithKline Beecham in 1991 as the head of SB Consumer Healthcare-North
American Division. He became Executive Vice President of SmithKline Beecham in 1996 and
assumed his current responsibilities in 1998. Mr. Ziegler succeeds John O. Parker as a
director on the Quest Diagnostics board, pursuant to the companys Stockholders
Agreement with SmithKline Beecham.
In addition, shareholders reelected the two other existing members of the Quest
Diagnostics board whose terms were expiring and were nominated for new three-year terms:
Kenneth W. Freeman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Quest
Diagnostics, and Gail R. Wilensky, the John M. Olin Senior Fellow at Project HOPE, an
international non-profit health foundation.
